Smarty-pants

Today was Joe's Masters Project presentation day. (Masters Project is the D'Youville version of a thesis. Only way cooler.) It was open to the public, so I went. I got there really early, perused the bookstore to waste time, and ran into someone who went to my high school. Of all places! Not someone I really *knew* in high school, but I recognized her name, and she obviously recognized my face. So that was kind of neat.

Then I went to the presentation, which wasn't much of a "traditional" presentation to be sure -- everyone said a sentence or two about their project, and for the remaining time the audience was able to walk around, check out the posters and such, and talk to the students about what they did. Being approximately the only person present who was not a teacher, I was a little out of place. But some of the projects did sound interesting, even to me. In particular, one person did a lot of research about the AP program and why it is declining and how to fix it, which caught me because I took AP classes in high school. Another did a manual for parents about preparing young children for school. Joe actually asked for a copy of that one, which I intend to read once he has it. After all, in the future, that could be very relevant for me. ;)

Of course, Joe's webquest program was the hit of the day! Seriously... he won an award, for the best project of his class. He got a medal and everything. :) And (all biases aside, of course) if anyone deserves a medal, it's my Joe. He's worked really hard, especially the past few weeks (months, even), and I doubt he's had a full night's sleep since... a long time ago. I'm really glad I was able to go to the presentation, even just to meet his professor and some of his classmates, and see him talk excitedly about his project to people who were interested. And in spite of the fact that he kept telling me I didn't need to... I think he might be glad I came, too. :)
