Explain to me the logic of the following scenario.

me: I have an appointment Monday morning at 8:30. Can I get half the day off?

boss: Well, I guess so, that's kinda short notice, you'll have to take it unpaid.

Sounds harmless enough. But let's ponder the details a moment.

1. Monday is 4 days from now. (Just for reference.)

2. I get 3 sick days per year, none of which I've taken.

3. I could just as easily have said nothing today, called in Monday morning, and gotten the full day off, paid.

4. Four days is more notice than calling in the morning of.

Honestly, I'm not the least bit upset or disappointed about not getting paid time off on Monday. (Especially considering what my appointment is for.) I'm just pointing it out because logically, it doesn't seem to make any sense. As in, next time I need time off for an appointment, I may as well just call off. As always, the person doing the right thing gets screwed. ;)

Unrelatedly, I'm having an excellent day. :)
