Long Day for Tiny Lad

Yesterday was an eventful day around here. In the morning, John decided to use his tummy time not to practice lifting his head or pushing his chest up with his arms. Instead, he managed to get his feet under him and propel himself forward. Overall he moved about a foot (and it took him a long time to get that far) and we're not even sure if he'll do it again next time we put him down, so I don't think I'd go so far as to call him "mobile" yet, but it was kind of funny. If he does keep doing it, I bet he'll be practicing lifting his head up soon too, otherwise he'll have rug burns on his face!

In the afternoon was his two-month checkup (a week early). He now weighs 11 pounds 1 oz and is 2 feet tall. That puts him around 75th percentile for height and 50th for weight (according to the doctor's charts anyhow). He was very active during his checkup, waving his arms around and kicking his legs. He got 2 shots and barely whimpered, then came home and slept the rest of the afternoon. He hardly woke up when we put him in the stroller to bring him to the family picnic (for all the school faculty and staff and their families), and slept through all the oohs and ahs and admirers, and through Joe and me eating dinner. Then he woke up sore and started to scream. Poor thing. I don't think he's screamed like that since the day he was born. It broke my heart. :-( Needless to say, John and I left the picnic early. Once we got home and he was fed and cuddled (and had a little Tylenol in him), he felt better.

I think he'll be getting shots at pretty much every appointment from here on out. I know it's better to get the shots than to end up with the diseases... but if you'd heard the way he was crying, I think you'd agree that it almost seems cruel and unusual. :(
