Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

Last night, Joe took his dad to the Bandits NLL championship game, while the baby and I hung out with my mother-in-law. John spent the evening talking to, smiling at, and overall charming the dickens out of his grandma. She was amazed at how much he has changed since the last time she saw him -- and considering that it has only been a week, I am amazed myself. Last week we weren't quite sure if he was smiling yet, but now there is no question. Last week he was just starting to experiment with new sounds, and now he'll look right at you and tell you things. He's gaining depth perception as well -- I noticed a few days ago that when I move my face in close he'll try to touch it, and Joe noticed yesterday that he now has his blink reflex. (Newborns don't blink if something comes toward their face, which I never knew till the doctor pointed it out at our last appointment.) He reaches for toys -- doesn't always succeed, but you can tell he's trying. He'll follow interesting things with his eyes or even his whole head. His chin doesn't quiver as much anymore... now I only see "the CHIN!" when he's cold or really upset, instead of randomly like when he was brand-new.

I find him totally fascinating, in case you couldn't tell. It's neat to observe first-hand how a new human being develops -- in the womb and beyond. I still love the fact that he does things on the outside that he used to do in utero.

The Bandits won last night by the way. :-)
