Well this has been a productive morning. So far I've: woken up around 5 to send my sweetheart off to work with hugs and kisses; actually emerged from bed at 6 to make lunch, dress, and eat; came to work; remembered why JK Rowling is one of my heroes; added pictures to the "About" page of the site; beat my personal best at Harry Potter trivia (126); started re-reading Sinfest from the beginning. Later I may do some more work on the site but right now I can't focus on anything... I think napping under my desk sounds like much more fun. Oh well... at least it's Friday, and PAYDAY on top of that... I'm sure I'll make it. :)
Tomorrow the new Harry Potter book hits stores. :) I've been prepping for it by listening to the movie soundtrack pretty continuously all week. ;) The movies don't do the books justice, although they're not bad. The first one I can't watch very much because every time I see it there's something else that irks me. My friends walked out on it in the theater and I still think they were being dumb for doing that... it is a movie after all, and a good one in its own right, and the movie can never be exactly like the book so you have to make allowances. Like the fact that the Sorting Hat didn't sing... I could deal with that. You didn't see as much of Fred and George Weasley in the movies as in the books... Peeves isn't in there at all... McGonagall in the movie was too old, in my opinion... and as good as Dumbledore was, he just isn't how I picture Dumbledore at all. But those are minor things. Small scenes left out here and there -- minor. What I did have a problem with were some of the actual changes made to the plot. Like in the movie, Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Malfoy all end up doing detention in the Forbidden Forest -- but Ron wasn't supposed to be there, it was supposed to be Neville. I don't know why that bugs me so much. I don't mind when they leave things out, but it bothers me when I'm watching something and I KNOW that it didn't happen in the book. Like... you have artistic liberties with cast and setting and such. You have to pick which parts of the book are most important to the plot and which scenes can be left out and yadda yadda... but when you've picked the scenes you want don't CHANGE them... unless you have a really good reason to. *rolls eyes* I sound just as picky as Ray and Locke, from when we watched the first movie at the theater. But I guess that's what happens when you love a book so much... no matter how good the movie is it just won't live up. :)
But anyway, tomorrow what's coming out is the new BOOK, not a movie, and I can't wait to get my hands on it! :) Oddly enough I didn't pre-order... I debated for quite a while on what to do about Book 5, because the versions I have of books 1-4 are the British Deluxe Editions, and book 5 won't be released in that edition until this fall at the earliest. So I've been going back and forth... do I buy the American version, or don't I? Because I have to have a matching set... that's how I operate, it irks me to no end to have an incomplete set of something. Like dishes... I have 6 of some sizes, 4 of some, 2 of others... it drives me nuts! I want a COMPLETE set of 8, no more, no less, of each piece. So I know going into this book thing that if I buy the American version of book 5 I'm going to be buying the British one in another few months anyway... so then I've got an extra of book 5 just sitting around! What to do, what to do... Well at long last I have come to a conclusion... I will buy book 5 when it comes out tomorrow (if I can find it anywhere)... and I will also buy the first four in American versions... and then by the end I'll have two complete hardcover sets of the books. I figure that way, I can read the American ones mostly, and keep the deluxe set in good shape (cuz they were a lot more expensive!). Whew! All that over a book! :) I am slightly psychotic I think... obsessive compulsive, anal retentive, however you want to word it. Most people would have just bought the damn book because they want to read it, simple as that. ;)
I have more on my mind but I've got work to do now... so it'll have to wait until tomorrow. :) Have a good day everybody!
