Sharp Pointy Teeth

As of a couple days ago, Mommy and Daddy fingers are out of baby's mouth because of the risk of injury. At long last, little teeth are beginning to poke through and they are sharp! You can't quite see them yet, but can definitely feel them.

John has changed so much in the past month! He's much more vocal (and louder). He rolls front to back, side to side. He has control of his head and neck. His back and legs are getting strong. He can sit upright with support, on a lap or in his Bumbo seat. He stands, supporting his own weight on his legs, only needing our hands for the balance. (At the end of last month, his "standing" involved us supporting all his weight.) His grasping has improved, he can pick things up off the floor, and he's even better at directing them into his mouth at the correct angles. He has no patience for bouncer chairs or hanging toys anymore -- he's beyond batting at things, and if he grabs something it better get to his mouth.

He no longer hiccups 2 or 3 times every day, he doesn't stick out his tongue if the wind blows in his face, and he's not allowed to bite Daddy's nose anymore. ;) He's pretty much quit inchworm-crawling in favor of rolling over and pivoting around. Often in the mornings I'll hear him cooing and squealing in his crib, playing with one of his crib toys (a bug that has crackly wings) instead of crying, and he'll greet me with that big smile. Most nights he'll put himself to sleep even if he's wide awake when we lay him down -- although sometimes it does take a couple of tries, and sometimes he doesn't want to go to bed unless he's completely out. But I think a lot of that has to do with the teeth pushing their way through his sensitive little gums. He still doesn't do regular naps during the day. He might fall asleep on me while he's eating, but half the time he'll wake up if I try to put him down in the crib, so I've been putting him on our bed instead. Sometimes he'll stay down for a couple of hours, sometimes he's up in 15 minutes. But I'd rather have him be a good sleeper at night than during the day. ;-)

Anyhoo, I hear squawking from my bed, so I must go rescue the Bumble from his catnap and put a fresh, clean diaper on him!
