4 Month Checkup

John is now officially 26 1/4 inches tall and weighs 12 pounds 11 oz. That puts him in the 90th percentile for height and 10th percentile for weight -- long and lean, as we already knew. Unfortunately, a little leaner than the doctor would like. So I'm under orders to eat more calories (a prescription for Ben & Jerry's as she said) so he'll plump up a bit. I hadn't really been paying attention, but my eating habits are about what they used to be before he was born, whereas I'm supposed to be eating about 500 extra calories a day. Ice cream anyone? ;-)

Other than that, he's in good shape. He got another round of shots, and we'll go back in a month for yet more shots and a weigh-in.

Unfortunately, shots for John meant he was miserable all evening and wanted nothing except to be attached to me. When I tried to put him down, he started screaming, really screaming the way he did the last time he got these particular shots. Poor baby. No bedtime routine last night, he just cuddled and nursed for a few hours until he finally was asleep enough that I could put him down in his crib. Then he was up at 2:30 and again at 5:30. I think I have been taking my full nights' sleep for granted... hopefully we'll be back in the routine again this evening. He's been back to good spirits for most of today at least.

Next week we're off to Maine to see Angela get married. It'll certainly be interesting seeing how John does with the long car trip. We're breaking it down into a two-day trip each way to make it easier. I'm really looking forward to it -- the trip itself, seeing Ange, celebrating the wedding. My parents are also going up so they'll get to spend some time with John again too. They haven't seen him since June and he's changed so much in just a month!

I spoke too soon on the work front. I did get overwhelmed and tell my boss I didn't think it was going to work out -- I couldn't finish the project by the deadline they gave me without killing myself, and that wasn't worth it for me and not fair to the company. It was a few days before I heard back, but finally I got an email from him... apologizing for giving me such a short deadline on the first project and promising that any future projects will have longer or no deadlines, if I would please give it another shot. Well that wasn't what I expected to hear, but it is flattering to think that they want me that badly! So for now I'm still sticking with it, one project at a time, and we'll see how it goes.

Unfortunately my computer committed suicide a couple days ago, so I have to use Joe's laptop (when he's not using it that is) until it's fixed. Mostly it's a matter of getting my hard drive out and backing up all the stuff I don't want to lose. Then reinstalling Windows I guess. I hate computers. I mean they're handy and all. I just never feel like all my stuff is safe -- the wrong 0 gets changed to a 1 and all my pictures, videos, writings, etc are just gone. I don't trust digital backups, and with good reason: the external hard drive we bought last year to be our backup has already died and eaten whatever was on it. I do have some stuff burned on cd's, but not all of it. Luckily I think I have hard copies of all the pictures, but, it would be sad to lose the video. C'est la vie I guess. I mean it's not like a fire couldn't come along and burn up all my baby pictures and scrapbooks and such; it just seems a lot less likely than losing them to a hard drive crash. :-P

Anyhow, that went way off topic, and I could be spending this rare, valuable time while the bumble is napping to get some work done, so off I go. :-)
