Nothing ordinary about ordinary time

So, let me tell you about my day Friday. It starts out by making my 1500th post on the board and getting a new silver star. Have a good day at work, make it to noon Mass. It's Joe's evening off so I get to see him when I get home -- a much bigger deal now since I don't get to see him every day.

We have a lovely evening, nothing fancy. Order a pizza, rent a movie (The Fugitive, for those who are curious). Head to his house to watch it. We're both very content and just happy to have time to spend together. It's nice.

As we're getting ready to take me home, Joe suddenly decides he wants to give me this poster he's had for 2 years. He's been saving it until he had the money to get it framed, but that just never seemed to materialize. ;) So that is a little strange, but cool. We collect the mailing tube with the poster in it, get in the car. Get to talking. Drive by my house because we aren't ready to end the conversation. Decide to stop at Friendly's for sundaes. Park, but don't go in, cuz we are still talking, and getting kind of emotional. :)

After awhile, Joe decides he wants to unroll the poster and look at it. It's a movie poster from An American Tail (my childhood favorite) with the lyrics to "Somewhere, Out There" on it. Still talking. Reminiscing about our relationship and pondering the future. You know, normal stuff.

Then he picks up the poster tube and starts shaking it to dislodge something from the bottom. I wish I could remember what he was saying exactly at that moment, but suddenly my heart catches in my chest. I bet you can see where this is going. Out comes a white box. He tells me he didn't plan it this way at all. He was going to do it on Valentine's Day, our third anniversary, which we've been making big plans for. But it's been a good day, and now just seems right. He's kneeling on the front seat of his car with tears sliding down his cheeks. He says "I'm technically on my knees, but we can get out of the car if you want. You want to get out?" I say no, it's okay. I start to cry.

He opens the box, and asks me to marry him. And of course, I say yes.
