*stamps foot*
So, as it turns out, my phone was disconnected because I have been using it primarily for internet access. Which was the absolute last thing that would have come to mind. But apparently according to their welcome packet (which I obviously didn't read very carefully), the lines are meant to be primarily voice, and "unlimited local" doesn't apply to my computer -- it only gets 5000 minutes a month... My constant connection was 35000 minutes or so. :P Oops. Apparently they sent me a letter, but I haven't gotten it yet. This is my own fault, I do confess, which is annoying. It's always really annoying to find out something is your fault. Much easier when it's their fault. :P But in any case I think they're idiots. I can accept that they don't want my business because I was too careless to read their rules and follow them. That is my fault. But they're idiots. Whatever.
So I'm forced to put my tail between my legs and crawl back to the overpriced idiocy that is Verizon. Which isn't a big deal, I can live with that. Apparently the $8 extra a month is so that my computer can have unlimited access too. :P The biggest pain in the butt is that since USTel totally disconnected me, I have to get a new phone number, which puts me in that spot of having to remember all the places/people that had my old number so I can change it. That's REALLY annoying. Not to mention having to remember my fourth new phone number in the past year. :P I was just getting used to my last one!
*shakes head*
Well on the bright side, everyone to whom I've recounted this story so far has had the same reaction: utter disbelief. Followed by (at least in one case) hysterical laughter. :)
Moral of the story: read the fine print. ;)
*sighs and goes back to work*
