Unless you are a doctor waiting to perform crucial surgery or you have some significant role in national security, chances are you are just not important enough to need to be available all the time.
We've been cell-phone-free for about 6 months, and I don't miss it.
I don't think cell phones are evil, but I do think it's depressing to go to a restaurant and see teenagers "hanging out" in today's apparent sense of the word: sitting at a table together, completely ignoring one another while texting on their respective cell phones. Joe compared them to calculators: handy tool but people tend to abuse it and use it as a crutch.
Yep, we're totally backwards, uncool, and definitely not fit for the modern mobile wireless world. :-)
