I could write something wistful about 2005, summing up the whole year and how I have changed in the last twelve months, and where I have been and where I see myself going this year. But I don't feel like it. So I'm going to do something I saw on another blog recently: Sum up 2005 by posting the first line from the first blog entry from each month. Could be interesting, or really boring. Here we go...
January: "I think I'm supposed to write a long analysis of Christmas, followed by the usual end-of-year treatise and the looking-ahead-to-2005 list of goals and dreams."
February: "On Monday evening, I found out that rather than getting a tax return this year, I actually owe the government $700."
March: "My Valentine rose is bigger than yours. HAHA. :D"
April: "On Thursday, much to the dismay of her parents and their supporters, though probably to the relief of the rest of the world who was sick of hearing about her, Terri Schiavo passed away."
May: "I have an ear infection."
June: "It is with great sadness that I must bring myself to make this unfortunate announcement."
July: "I hate television."
August: "I miss blogging."
September: "Louisiana and Mississippi are devastated in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina."
October: "In honor of the opening of the NHL season, I will now relate a story from last week."
November: "Somehow it's November already, and I'm not sure how that happened."
December: "The impending holiday has me in an interesting sort of mood."
Okay, I admit it, I did cheat on a couple of those, taking the second post of the month instead of the first one. That's because in those cases the first post was a link, or a picture, or something to that effect -- that is, not an actual post. :P
I do think that the first line from last January is amusing when compared with the first line of this post. I see a trend of apathy here. Funny because two years ago I did take the time to write an actual reflection on the previous year and resolutions for the new one. I guess that was because there were so many things that happened that year, which would have been 2003 -- breaking up, getting together, getting over, going on a cruise, graduating, getting a job, moving, being in a wedding, getting a kitten, falling in love, becoming Catholic. Yeah, I'd say 2003 was a pretty momentous year, as years go. I guess it's all been downhill from there. :P Not really though. Life is just a little slower, a little more predictable, a little less new, a little less exciting. I guess that's just part of growing up. When you're a kid, things change so much from year to year that every year is new and different and exciting. Become an adult and it just isn't like that anymore.
Also, you get to a point in your life where a year or even two is a reasonably small amount of time. You remember when a year was something endless, something you couldn't even think in terms of. Now you're surprised to find out another one has gone by. It's been a year already? Didn't that used to be a long time?
This year, this 2006, should be an interesting one. Molly and Grant's new baby is due in less than two months. So is my vacation to Georgia (how long, how long have I been planning that?). Joe is done with school now. Done. He's going to be job-hunting (hopefully job-acquiring!) starting next month. And could that mean...? But I'm also going to be Maid of Honor in a wedding this summer. And Tim and Cathy will have their third baby this summer. And I know someone else who's getting married, and lots of other things happening for lots of other people. Joe and I will be spending some time in Niagara Falls this summer, and maybe Toronto. I'll turn 25 next fall. So it will be an interesting year.
It won't be much of anything, though, if I don't get my butt back to work. :P
