- I bought myself some pretty new shirts from Dress Barn, which I was pleasantly surprised to discover has a number of styles which live up to my high standards of modesty without also making me look like I just stepped out of Little House on the Prairie. I think I will be going back there.
- I finally, FINALLY, found a new pair of black dress shoes that I can actually wear. FINALLY.
- I also gifted myself with new underwear (because new underwear always makes a girl feel good), from ThinkGeek no less (because they rule), and ordered Miss Manners on Weddings off of ebay.
(I feel the need to mention that most of the contributing factors to this week's good mood are not, in fact, material; however, the previously mentioned purchases were all made last week when I was mostly in a grumpy mood and shopping made me feel better. :P And I really don't buy myself much normally, so treats are nice every now and then.)
- I got to hang out with Locke, twice in fact, which is more than I'd seen him in the previous two months. So that was nice. :)
- Locke is buying a house!
- Found out that Greg and Hilary are engaged. I only talk to them occasionally, but it's exciting!
- Saw in the Caz paper that Shane and Kristen, who I knew in high school, are getting married this year. I don't keep up with them (last saw them at Molly's wedding) but I was friends with Shane from 3rd grade all the way up. It's exciting to know that some of the "sweethearts" from my high school actually lasted. They've been together since tenth grade -- nine years!
- Heard through the grapevine that Corg and Liz are expecting their first baby. Haven't talked to them since their wedding, but it's still exciting news. :)
- Father Sean finally got in touch with me, and we have a meeting set up for next week to finalize our wedding date! So excited about that!
- Joe's job situation for next year (and beyond) is pretty much set! That is exciting because it takes away a lot of big question marks, like where we're going to live.
- Joe has these two weeks off!
- Last week, Aunt Dotty came to visit with cousins Don and MaryJo from Georgia! We all went to Niagara Falls, then out for dinner, and stayed and chatted at a hotel for the night (Don and MaryJo flew back down south early on Sunday). It was almost like being back on vacation for a day. :)
- The Sabres are kicking butt lately, and we have tickets to see them next Friday!
- Joe came by this morning with a dozen gorgeous red roses. :) He also brought some Hershey Kissables (soooo goooood) that I'll be using as my keep-awake snack during Java class next week.
- Had a great Confession last weekend with Father Sean, which is probably the main thing that brought my spirits up for this week.
- So much to look forward to that I'm having a hard time keeping myself contained here in March. I keep thinking it must be April, May, June by now.
(The following items from the weekend were added today, since the rest of the post was written Friday but not actually published then.)
- Got to see friends that we haven't seen in months: Jason, Jon, Locke (although I'd obviously seen him more recently than the rest).
- Ate at Chef's for the second time. Yum yum yum!
- Beat Golden Axe at the arcade on Saturday and it cost us less to do so than the last time we played. Which can only mean I'm getting better. :-D
- Found a brand-new Nevada quarter to add to my state quarters collection. (Hey, admit it, you're collecting them too!)
- Saw some prints from the St. John illuminated Bible that is being made. Wow! (Bonus: we went to the cathedral to see the exhibit, so I got to see that too -- I'd never been there before!)
- My roses have only gotten more beautiful as the weekend progressed! The cat is going insane because they're safely shut up where he can't eat them. ;-)
- St. Joseph's Day with Joe's family and all the traditional fare: thick spaghetti with sauce and breadcrumbs; fried burdocks (roots, I think, or stalks maybe?) and fried cauliflower (sounds weird but is really good!) and some other fried green thing that I didn't eat; the little pastries that are like mini cream puffs without the cream. About a hundred smoked cheddar cheese cubes. And then, Entenmann's danishes (raspberry and cream cheese) -- not really sure why, but I wasn't complaining, I LOVE those things -- and once I'd eaten myself somewhere into next week, they pulled out the pineapple upside-down cake. Oh, sweet Lord in Heaven. The best part of all was I ate about 50lbs of food and didn't get so much as a stomachache. ;-)
- Got to spend the whole weekend with Joe! Can't remember the last time that happened. :-)
I'm sure there are more but that should give you a good idea. Joe has this week off as well, so I'm sure many more happy things will be added to my happy mood by next Monday. :-) Did I mention that today is the first day of spring (ignore the fact that it's about 30 degrees outside), and (in Amherst anyway) the sun is shining?
:-D
